Iditarod in the Classroom

The Iditarod Trail Committee has developed a wonderful educational program using the excitement and real-life events of the Race to foster a fun and exciting yet effective learning environment in the classroom. Their Educational Portal provides teachers many teaching-tools for almost any subject: from math and science to social studies and art.

I met Erin Montgomery, a social studies teacher from Comanche Middle School, Iowa at the 2014 Iditarod musher sign-ups . Her three 7-8 grade classes followed my training, preparation, and racing during the 2013-14 school year. Here is a link to a introductory video they made Ms EMont’s Classes. And this is a Movie Trailer the from Ms EMont’s Students Quest for the Iditarod. Ms EMont’s students made another great video called the Twas the Night Before the Iditarod. They also wrote letters for me to open at each of the race check points. After the race, I sent the students a package and they made this video  Booties.
