Gin Gin 200 Mile Race

by Cindy on Dec.30, 2011

Well, I started the Gin Gin 200 Race making good time on a tricky trail. At the rest stop I was not comfortable about the long run-time predicted (due to trail conditions) for the next 85-mile leg. I did not have extra dog food and did not want to risk injuries my young dogs – we have not trained in those conditions so I decided to scratch. I experienced many new challenges, met many nice people,  and gained more confidence and experience. In total, I ran 120 miles (took a side trip on my way back) and will continue working at this very challenging sport.

After I finished and took a shower :)

The Next Race

by Cindy on Dec.26, 2011

Went home for 3 days and arrived back at the kennel on Christmas Eve. Lance and I went for an evening run. Me with 9 dogs and he had 16. Guess who got home first!?! But he would have if he only had 5 dogs :)))) Cold here (-30 degrees) and snowing. I leave for my next race, The Gin Gin 200, tomorrow. No wrong turns allowed!!!!

Alaska sure is a beautiful place.

My First Race

by Cindy on Dec.19, 2011

Got back to the Comeback Kennel about 6 AM and tucked the dogs in and got a few hours sleep. The race started great! That is until I missed one turn and ended up doing a 78-mile loop back to the Starting Line!!!!! My dogs did amazing but I had to “scratch” because of my mistake. But that’s why they call it training. I had fun and learned a lot. Next race is On Dec 28th.
