Turned Back by Wind

by CindyAbbott on May.20, 2010

This morning we tried to move to Camp 3 but the winds were too high. So, we will try again tomorrow. We did, however, get some great pictures of the Lhotse Face. All those little black dots snaking their way up the mountain are climbers/Sherpas: many also turned back.

Jet Stream Over Mt. Everest – Not Good!

by CindyAbbott on May.20, 2010

Jet Stream Visits Mt. Evesrest!

Today we tried to climb the Lhotse Face and get to Camp 3 but we were turned back by high winds. Later in the morning the Jet Stream came in over Mt. Everest (100 MPH winds). We lay in our tents listening to the roar of the wind moving over the summit of Everest. And the site is beautiful site but not when you are counting the DAYS left to summit this season! Imagine being here for over 7 weeks: waiting and trying and hoping.

Going for Mt. Everest Summit

by CindyEverest on May.20, 2010

We are at Camp 2(21,500 ft).I was on the verge of heat stroke from crossing
the Western Cwn. I will send pictures tomorrow. We leave for Camp 3 in the
morning, Camp 4 the following day, and then the summit. There are many
variables which may effect our progress: weather be a big question, and
because many climbers have been waiting for the weather there could be big
crowds on the mountain. If we get slowed by either weather or 150 climbers
on the fixed lines – we may have to turn around because we will not have
enough oxygen. Whatever happens, we will give it our best shot, but Mother
Nature (and maybe my medical condition) will decide. Our team and Sherpas
are in place and we leave in the morning. I will not be able to post.
However, my blog manager may be able to post media updates. Also, watch the
Mountain Trip site and the media links.

I want to thank you all for your support. Knowing you are there is amazing!

Leaving my family for months, managing my medical condition, and climbing
Mt. Everest is unimaginably difficult, but here I am!

I, however, have every intention of standing on the top of the world holding
the NORD Banner!!!!!!!!

To all of you who think you cannot follow your dreams, please try! You never
know what is possible until you try.

Please excuse my writing, lack of oxygen!

Remember, when life brings us a storm: We must learn to dance in the rain.
