Everest Base Camp

by CindyAbbott on Apr.18, 2010

Today Scott (our expedition leader) met with Russell Brice to discuss fixed lines to the summit.

We did our first day of ladder training: It was a lot of fun!

Today I spent most of the day organizing gear for the first climb/carry to
camp 2 at 21,500 ft. We have our Puja Ceremony (blessing) on April 21st then
the Sherpas can go into the Khumbu Icefall, and we will follow the next day.
It has snowed most of the day and during the nights. So far it has been a
magical experience! The most difficult part is being apart from my family.

Arrive at Mt.Everest Base Camp

by CindyAbbott on Apr.18, 2010

We have all arrived at the south side Mt. Everest base camp (17,600 ft). The trek went very well and we are on schedule to go up the mountain on April 22nd for our first acclimatization climb (about four days to camp two 21,500 ft).

Four days to BASE CAMP

by CindyAbbott on Apr.13, 2010

Wow, it is hard to believe that in four days we will be at Mt. Everest base camp, living in tents for 6 weeks, and climbing to the top of the World. I miss my family very much: this a difficult part of the whole experience :(  Now I am going for a few hour hike to get some altitude.

Amazing site to wake up to!

Snowy Morning

by CindyAbbott on Apr.13, 2010

We are at 13,500 ft for the next two nights while our bodies adjust to the altitude. This morning we woke up to a beautiful snowy view of the valley.
