High Camps
by CindyAbbott on Apr.29, 2010

Me standing at 22, 000 ft with the Lhotse Face on the far right and Mt.Everest on the left. I am at 22,ooo ft with only 8000 ft to go: which will take the next three weeks to do! I am holding the NORD banner (National Organization on Rare Diseases)
Everything on Everest is going as planned. We just returned from five days at high camps, are back at base camp resting, and leave again for five days up high again (in two days). Next time we will be climbing to Camp 3 the Lhotse Face to 22,300 ft. It is a 2000 ft ice wall. I am sending you pictures now because it will not be possible to take pictures when we are climbing

Cindy – so glad everything is going as planned and that you are feeling good. Still hard to conceive that you are actually climbing Everest. We wish you a successful ascent to Camp 3 and Lhotse Face. We’ll try not calling you an Ice Queen when you return. Remember, the steeper the mountain, the harder the climb, the better the view at the top. Walt Whitman said, “what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Thinking of you! LOL, Kathy K.

Hi Cindy!
Bill says you’re now higher than 99% of humans have likely climbed. Of course you left me behind at the tarmac altitude. We’re all enjoying your updates and miss you around KHS – no early morning chats! Keep climbing and smiling.

Sweet. You are almost there. I read about the avalanche you guys had on the north side I think it was. Be careful.

Cindy – it sounds like you are going to Camp 3 tomorrow. I’ll do an anti-snow and anti-wind dance to the Gods tonight so that you have good weather. The blogs have been incredible to read and digest. You may not be there yet, but you are closer than you were yesterday. Today’s inspiration quote: “difficult things take a long time, impossible things take longer.” Thoughts and prayers for you and your team! LOL, Kathy K.
