High Camps

by Cindy Abbott on Apr.29, 2010

Me standing at 22, 000 ft with the Lhotse Face on the far right and Mt.Everest on the left. I am at 22,ooo ft with only 8000 ft to go: which will take the next three weeks to do! I am holding the NORD banner (National Organization on Rare Diseases)

Me coming up ladder going to Camp 1.

Me crossing a ladder going through the Khumbu Icefall.

Everything on Everest is going as planned. We just returned from five days at high camps, are back at base camp resting, and leave again for five days up high again (in two days). Next time we will be climbing to Camp 3 the Lhotse Face to 22,300 ft. It is a 2000 ft ice wall. I am sending you pictures now because it will not be possible to take pictures when we are climbing

At Camp Two

by Cindy Abbott on Apr.26, 2010

I am at camp 2 now (21,500ft). We will stay three nights to acclimatize and
then go back to base camp: with all its luxuries! Last night we had the most
wonderful view of the moonlight on the Lhotse Face and Mt. Everest.
Climbing the Khumbu Icefall was amazing – I will post pictures when I get
back down. Have to go help build a tent platform from rocks: very
comfortable :)

Moving Up

by Cindy Abbott on Apr.22, 2010

Today we climbed 1/3 of the way to Camp 1. We practiced on the ropes and
crossing the ladders! I will try and get a picture of me crossing a ladder
posted, but we leave early in the morning for 5 days at Camps ! and 2. I
should have some great pictures when I get back down. All is well on the
mountain: It is amazingly beautiful here – but a bit cold. Miss home and
family: only 6 more weeks.

More Training

Climbing out of base camp

Hike from base camp with Everest in background

Today we did more training and hiking getting ready to move to camp 1 (20,000 ft) and then camp 2 (21,000 ft). Had a hot shower today! It was the first shower in over a week! Simple pleasures means so much up high on the mountain.
