Good News!

by CindyAbbott on Oct.27, 2009

Because no one with Wegener’s Granulomatosis has ever attempted to climb Mt. Everest, I have been in contact with Dr. Peter Hackett Director of the Institute for Altitude Medicine at Telluride, CO.  He has been advising me on the special issues of climbing to extreme altitude and my disease.

I recently found out that Dr. Hackett will be staffing the south side Everest ER in 2010. This is great news: He will be on-site to observe and advise.

    Hey Cindy
I’m in awe of you. I’d so much like to come but my doc (and my trainer) advise against it. I’m nowhere near being fit enough to climb. Despite me being able to hold down a full time job and run my own business it doesn’t mean squat when it comes to high altitude climbing LOL!

The WG affected my lungs, kidneys and sinus. I nearly died. I had nothing left. I’m one of the lucky ones that not only had an awesome team of docs but got to keep my own organs and can work a full day without collapsing in a heap. It’s a long, hard road and a positive attitude helps a lot. You’ve got bucketloads of it. Keep it up girl!!! Woooooo!!!!
